US Inflation Data and Elevated Asset Valuations — Nasdaq, S&P 500 and Gold

This week could provide important clarity on the direction of U.S. inflation, while the ECB monetary policy decision will offer another key signal for global interest-rate expectations.
Following Friday's relatively strong U.S. employment report, market expectations for tighter Federal Reserve policy have increased, bringing the inflation fight and the possibility of higher-for-longer interest rates back into focus.
The ECB rate decision on Thursday will be followed on the same day by U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) data, while the more closely watched Consumer Price Index (CPI) will be released on Friday.
With the Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for next week, this combination of inflation data and central-bank decisions could generate significant volatility across major asset classes — particularly Gold, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100.
At current elevated valuation levels, markets may be especially sensitive to any inflation surprise that changes expectations for the future path of U.S. interest rates.
Another seasonal factor occasionally discussed on Wall Street is the old market saying associated with the Jewish High Holidays: "Sell Rosh Hashanah, buy Yom Kippur." While this is market folklore rather than a fundamental trading signal, this year the period coincides with an already event-heavy macro calendar and is followed by major U.S. futures and options expirations next week.
Technical Levels to Watch
GOLD
Support: 4,350–4,400
Resistance: 4,480–4,520
Gold remains sensitive to movements in U.S. yields, the dollar and expectations surrounding the Federal Reserve. A decisive move outside the current support/resistance range could provide the next short-term directional signal.
US500 — S&P 500
Initial support: 7,500–7,600
Resistance: 7,700–7,800
The index is approaching an important resistance zone. If a broader risk-off correction develops, the next significant support area could emerge around 7,350–7,400, potentially coming into focus relatively quickly if selling momentum accelerates.
US100 — Nasdaq 100
Major resistance: 29,500–30,000
Initial significant support: 28,000–28,500
Nasdaq remains particularly exposed to changes in interest-rate expectations due to the rate sensitivity of high-growth and technology valuations. A stronger-than-expected inflation reading could therefore create additional pressure around the current resistance area, while softer inflation data may support another attempt to challenge the 30,000 region.
Market Focus
With major U.S. equity indices trading close to important resistance zones and Gold remaining near elevated levels, this week's inflation releases could become an important test of current market positioning.
The key question is whether inflation data will support current asset valuations — or force markets to reprice the outlook for interest rates once again.
